At first I was skeptical this place was haunted. An elderly man, who we later found out was named Joe, shot and killed himself inside the house (we believe in the bathroom shown to the right). This of course lead to tales of hauntings; I figured. Nonetheless, like I always do, I went in to our paranormal investigation with an open mind.

Our first investigation took place in August 2008. The house was vacant and some neighbors that watch the house, Lisa and Bill let us in. It didn't take but a few minutes before I was feeling a strong presence. It greeted me immediately when I walked in the door. I didn't sense the spiritual presence was evil, but it wasn't overly welcoming either.

The house is a small ranch built sometime in the 1950s with two bedrooms and two bathrooms (basement too). The house is unassuming and is far from the stereotypical vision of a 'haunted house.' We learned the house was built to the specifications of Joe's wife, Stella, whom he loved dearly and lived with along with their daughter, until Stella was taken to live in a 'facility.' This upset Joe, who committed suicide as a result.

Joe made sure we knew it was HIS Spirit Haunting the House by not only showing himself, but giving off a "signature scent."

All I knew going in, that a man committed suicide. I didn't assume the spirit I was encountering was Joe either. I assume nothing. I only knew a spirit was present. However, Joe made it very clear to us that it was HE haunting the house before long. His first sign was generating the smell of fish. Believe it or not, gross as that is, several times throughout our investigation while inside and outside the house, we were visited by a smell of fish. It's common for scents to accompany spirits, but this was a first experience of a 'signature scent.' After about the third time, Lisa, the neighbor who gave us access to investigate the house, remembered a note on the counter. The note was handwritten by the current owner to potential buyers, and rather than details about the specifications of the house, were details about the first owners, Joe and his wife. The note made mention that Joe was a FISHERMAN and mason. This note served as a nice piece of evidence to help us identify our spirit. And on a deeper note, the fact that the current owner felt the need to mention him in the note shows in some way, she was paying homage to him.
